I've already been planning my next cosplay project as I've wanted to do this one for quite a few months and I'm finally figuring out how it do it, and I think it may be quite simple!
Crona Gorgon is the child of Medusa Gorgon in the anime Soul Eater. Androgynous in appearance, their gender is ambiguous and Crona is often described using gender-neutral pronouns. Crona's appearance consists of: Short pink/lilac hair A thin, tall build Large, soft, often sad eyes Sad eyebrows A long, black, tight-fitted robe Large white cuffs An open, button-up collar Black boots, also with large white cuffs All the buttons are black Crona is a Demon Sword Master with a weapon named Ragnarok who lives inside their body/blood, fused in with Crona's black blood. Crona is a very timid, nervous, jumpy and negative character and often tries to avoid fighting, but Medusa casts a spell on Crona's mind to increase aggression. |
I will be purchasing this dress and modifying it. I would probably be able to make the dress from scratch but this dress is very cheap to buy and it will save me time, instead of having to draft up all the patterns, making sure it fits me correctly, sourcing materials, making it up, ect. This dress it made from viscose and elastane, meaning it will have stretch so it should fit well and have a figure-hugging look. I may bind my chest down to make my bust appear smaller as Crona doesn't really have any curves. The high neckline means I can add the collar straight on. |
This is the wig I will be buying. I don't have any experience in wig styling so it's best I buy this pre-cut and styled wig as I'd probably make a mess if I tried to do my own. All I'll really need to do is brush it and spray some hairspray on the day. |
After looking at a few examples online and reading about how people have gone about making their own, I have an idea on how the cuffs will be made. First I will cut out a rectangular shape from cardboard, or thin foam, of the full length and width which I want for the cuff. This will act as a template and to make the cuff stiff and more rigid so it keeps it's shape once constructed from fabric. Next, using this template, I will cut out the shape of the cuff twice from a white material. On one length of the material I will sew two equally spaced black lines, just like in the image. I will then take both the pieces of fabric and placing the two "right sides" together, I will sew along 3 edges (2 of the longer edges and 1 of the short) making the cuff inside out. Next I will turn the fabric around, making it not "inside out", but "outside in", and making it the "right way around". I will insert the cardboard/foam template inside, and sew up the final 4th seam. This will enclose the stiffening template inside the cuff. Then I can add Velcro, sew on the buttons, make a second cuff and attach them to the dress sleeves! |
As for the shoes I don't really think it matters too much what they look like just as long as they're no higher than ankle-height and mostly black in colour. I will probably follow a similar method for the cuffs around the top of the boots as what I'll be doing for the wrist cuffs described in the section above. I think they will either sit around the top of the shoes or I'll make them so they have an elasticated strap which will sit under my foot, known as a "stirrup", as seen on the left. |
Again, I will probably be making the collar with a similar method to the cuffs, in terms of encasing it with a stiffer material, to make it stand upright. 3/5 buttons on Crona's collar are usually left undone, so I will possibly add real buttons and button holes so that it can be done up accurately instead of having to use Velcro or some other unnecessary material to do up the collar only half way, as this would only complicate things. Adding buttons seems like a far more simple and accurate solution. |
| Crona's makeup is quite pale and natural, so I'll just do my normal foundation and powder, which gives me a naturally pale complexion, lighten and powder my lips a little so they don't have much colour, and do the eye makeup shown in this video. |
As for Crona's weapon, Ragnarok, I have two options: I can either make him as a plush in his chibi form and attach him to my wig and the back of my dress, making it look like he's coming out of my back, like he does in the anime. Or I can make a sword prop, replicating the weapon form he takes. The sword design resembles Ragnarok's body and reveals a mouth on the blade when using Scream Resonance. I would create the sword in Ragnarok's larger form, rather than his chibi form sword which is very thin. |
I will be starting this cosplay once my Pennywise costume is finished and I get my student loan
through so I can afford the materials!
