Beautiful and inspiring photo-shoot and video created by;
Photographer: Signe Vilstrup Cinematographer: Kristina Demant Stylist: Dorothea Gundtoft Make up: Louise Bruun At first I ran up 2 lengths of netting and placed either one at my hips, I then decided they needed more fullness so I ran up another 2 lengths and attached them to the previous 2. I pinned them to my hips to see how it looked and decided I wanted fullness at the back to, so that the net skirt would go all the way around the back, leaving a gap in the center front, rather than just on the hips. Although it did look nice just on the hips, I felt it represented LSP better by making the dress more full and "lumpy" like her! So I ran up the last of my fabric and pinned it to the center back! The next day I took the whole thing into university and popped it onto a mannequin so I could get a better look at the dress and work with it better. I bought another 4 meters of fabric to add even more fullness to the skirt! This time I just ran the netting up in one long strip, gathered it to the width of the waist, and pinned it to the dress on top of all the other netting I'd pinned on the previous day. Once I'd pinned everything into the perfect place I marked it out with tailors chalk, removed the netting, over-locked all the pieces together to neaten the edge and then I hand stitched the netting to the waist of the skirt, where I'd marked it with chalk, doing 2 layers of stitching to reinforce it. It looks a little messy but I knew I was going to wear a belt at the waist so I didn't worry too much, I just made it as neat as I could. Next I borrowed a lighter shade of purple thread from university and printed out a template of LSP to do some embroidery. I was surprised at myself for choosing to do this as I personally hate embroidery, but I knew it would look effective and I guess machine embroidery isn't too bad compared to hand embroidery (*shivers*). I drew the template up on some scrap purple fabric I had, popped it into an embroidery hoop and fired away! I didn't have an embroidery foot that would fit my machine so i just had to make do with what I have and keep the foot up while sewing. On certain areas I even removed the foot and just used the bare needle to sew! |
